So, this is my cop-out page. Writing what is essentially a bunch of book reports is really hard, especially on non-linear work like poetry, and I need to turn in this project sooner rather than later. So instead, I'm going to talk for a minute about my process in analyzing works, without writing paragraphs about what I liked and didn't like in the books I read.
What I do is I start by just reading through the work, taking in the poetry and appreciating it as it is. Once I've finished it, I go back through and mark the pages with the poems I really love, and underline the lines that particularly hit. On that second read through, I'm taking a more critical eye to the poems and what about them I really like, as well as noting what doesn't work to me. Finally, I read through a third time and really take it apart mechanically, looking at the various poetic devices used in the poem. This is where I find I can really grow, because if I understand the mechanics of the authors I like, then I can utilize their tools in my own work. Not to mention that it's fun!
